IP55, IP56, and IP68 Rated Fans

Ingress protection (IP) is a standard protection rating on electrical enclosures that are considered waterproof or dustproof. Sunon IP rated fans and blowers offer built-in protection against dust, water, and foreign objects that can severely damage the motor of a fan or blower.  Sunon IP rated fans and blowers undergo rigorous testing against harsh environments such as water jets, rain, flood, salt fog, moisture, severe dust, and dirt exposure. The difference between IP rated fans and blowers versus non-IP rated fans and blowers is in the potting process and the type of materials used for the coating of the electrical mechanics of the fan or blower.  Understanding IP ratings can provide the user a detailed understanding of what it means when a fan or blower is waterproof or water-resistant. Each numerical digit represents conformity with the conditions of solid particles or liquids.

For example, when a fan or blower is IP68 rated, it is completely protected against dust and cannot be damaged during permanent immersion in water.
