Video Extenders

Tripp Lite's video extenders convert video signals into a form that can be transmitted over a greater distance. Audio and control signals can be sent alongside the video. Tripp Lite provides extenders for HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, VGA, and component video signals. Some extender kits act as adapters as well. Video cables can be extended in a few different ways:

Active cables

Active cables act like normal cables with built-in boosters (also known as repeaters) to extend video signals to greater distances. Active cables typically only work in one direction, which is indicated on each end of the cable.

Copper Ethernet

Cable extenders transmit over copper Ethernet function by placing video signal converters on both ends of the copper Ethernet cable. These devices convert video signals to a proprietary signal that can easily be sent over long distances. Video cable extenders over copper ethernet can be purchased as individual transmitters or receivers, together as a kit, and separate signal repeaters for greater distances.

Fiber optic

Cable extenders transmit over fiber optic cable functions in the same way as over copper Ethernet cable; however, video signals can be sent over much longer distances. These cable extenders function by placing video signal converters on both ends of the fiber optic cable. These devices convert video signals to a proprietary signal that can easily be sent over long distances. Video cable extenders over fiber optic can be purchased as transmitter and receiver kits.

Wireless and AV over IP

Cable extenders utilizing wireless or AV over IP are ideal solutions for conference rooms where the video source changes frequently, as well as digital signage with heavy foot traffic. IP-based extenders can be distributed over an existing local area network, making installation easier and less expensive. It can also make use of standard network components like switches to connect video sources and displays. Wireless extenders function in much the same way but do not utilize local area networks. For best results, wireless transmitters and receivers should be positioned in the line of sight. Transmission through walls, glass, or brickwork is possible but reduces signal range and quality.
