The LM2594 or LM2597 series may be used to change a regulated DC input voltage to an output voltage other than 3.3V, 5.0V, or 12V. In this application, the inductor’s volt-microsecond constant must be calculated in order to determine which inductor should be used. The formula shown in Step 1 calculates this value. Vsat is the internal switch saturation voltage, as given in the Texas Instruments LM2594/LM2597 series data sheet.
