A conventional potentiometer (informally called a “pot”) is a variable resistor with a sliding contact that forms an adjustable voltage divider. The output voltage is used in very different applications; for value adjustment using a rotary knob, or as angle position feedback for closed-loop position control. Unfortunately contact based potentiometers often have challenges based on their mechanical configuration. The best way to avoid or improve these issues is by using a contactless pot.
