The screw and nut lap joint is an improvement using high grade fasteners that ensure alignment of the two halves. Adjustment to compensate for wear is possible. There is a still a large area where the two halves meet on the bearing surface and the nut turns on one half with a metal-to-metal interface which can lead to premature wear and tear on the joint.
