This optical encoder product line was developed to meet customers’ requests of wanting a distinct “feel” or “click” when the knob is rotated. Copal Electronics designed a framed detent ball along with a torsion coil spring to create the characteristics requested by our customers. Copal Electronics also created a new contact mechanism for the pushbutton function of these encoders by utilizing a dome contact with distinct tactile feedback.
