To choose the best material for the contacts there are various factors to be considered such as the current and voltage levels, the type of load, the potential inrush current, the number of operations, the switching  frequency and the environmental conditions. Silver (Ag) or silver-nickel (AgNi) contacts are normally fitted but special contact materials are available depending on the application such as Gold plate, silver Tin Oxide, or Silver Cadmium Oxide.
