Some of the applications that will find these UARTs extremely useful are processor-to-processor communications systems, battery-operated handheld devices and any 1.8V application that needs an RS-232 or RS-485 transceiver. In addition, a range of consumer applications can be addressed using these UARTs. In applications that do not need a UART or where a full modem UART is not required, four of the eight modem control signals can be used as general purpose I/Os.
