Conformal coating is a process of applying a thin dielectric film onto a circuit board. Depending on the application requirements and the chemistry chosen, this coating could be applied between 1 and 10 mils thick. The coating is used to protect components and traces from corrosion, shorts, and mechanical damage. Conformal coatings are typically applied via spray, brushing, or dipping.
