Phase change materials are low temperature thermoplastics that combine the wetting and performance of grease with the convenience of a solid film. The PCTIM melts to a high viscosity liquid at a specified temperature, which is typically 45-60°C. Although they require mounting pressure to hold in place, PCTIMs do not pump out of the interface during thermal cycling. PCTIM films are available in application specific preforms or standard sheets.
