The first task in selection is to determine if the electric circuit requires a normally closed or normally open switch. If the switch is normally open, the switch is not activated in its rest position and there is no current flow. When actuated, the contacts are closed, completing the circuit. When wired as normally closed, the switch is activated in its rest position. When actuated, the contacts are opened and the circuit is broken.
