The actual construction of an LED is very simple. An LED begins with the semi-conductor chip located in the center of the lead frame reflector cap. The entire chip is enclosed within either a clear or colored epoxy encasement, thereby making the LED nearly indestructible. The LED is then set into a assembling package for mounting on a circuit board in either a through-hole or surface-mount construction.
