The question often comes up whether customers have to purchase their own MAC addresses from the IEEE. Unfortunately, the IEEE does not allow companies to subdivide their MAC address block out to other companies, so Microchip customers must buy their own block of addresses. Buying a block of addresses is as simple as filling the form that can be found at the standards.ieee.org website.
