The internal fan of a refrigerator circulates cool air inside to maintain an even temperature. If the fan driver electronics are inside of the refrigerator, the heat it generates takes extra power to cool it. Therefore a better design puts the electronics outside of the conditioned space. In this case, the designer of the appliance chooses the motor driver.
