As mentioned earlier in this training module, one of the benefits of the SDC 2.5 and SDDC 1.5 product lines is the elimination of the header. In a typical plug and header solution, the price of the plug comprises about 70% of the total cost, while the header contributes about 30% of the total cost. By eliminating the header, an instant cost savings of 30% can be realized. Of course, a solder process is also eliminated and inventory costs are reduced due to a lower component count.
