Shown on this slide is an example of a mobile phone using a light sensor to control the LCD display and the keypad. In a dark environment, the light sensor will instruct the LCD driver to decrease brightness and also instruct the keypad LED driver to turn on the LED’s. The opposite occurs in a bright environment. The ability to adjust the brightness on an as needed basis drastically improves visibility and reduces power consumption.
