Equivalent Series Resistance is added to the traditional MLCC construction through a unique internal electrode design. These capacitors are placed in the circuit in the same way as traditional 2-terminal capacitors (i.e. shunt). Though resembling a three-terminal feed through type filter, the side terminations are not to be electrically connected to the circuit.
