Capacitance value and case size can be reduced in some cases, with the additional possibility of a reduction in component count. In the smoothing example, a lower cap value MLCC offers the same performance with a smaller case size. In the decoupling example, a tantalum and MLCC are used for noise filtering. Both components are replaced with a single MLCC that offers the same performance.
