Here is an illustration of the error between the actual capacity of a Li-Ion and the capacity reported by the fuel gauge. This shows three curves corresponding to reported error at 3%, 5%, and 10% state of charge for a battery that was charged and discharge cycled 250 times. In all cases, the reported error was less than 1% from the actual capacity of the battery over 250 cycles.
