Aside from Wi-Fi certification, there are also regulatory certifications to consider. Although, Wi-Fi operates on the unlicensed bands of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, there are still regulations that apply because Wi-Fi devices are classified as intentional transmitters. Depending on where the device will operate, it may need to adhere to regulatory bodies such as the FCC, IC, CE, ETSI, or TELEC as well as undergo compliance testing which can cost up to $25,000.
