Serial flash can be either NOR or NAND flash. The name of the architectures describes the way that the memory cells are organized. In NOR flash, the cells have one end connected to the source line and the other end to the bit line such that it resembles a NOR gate. In NAND flash, several cells are connected in series similar to a NAND gate.
