It is important for a design engineer to know how large the solder pads should be on a circuit board especially when designing in an SMD power resistor for high current and high power. Typically, using a total surface area as outlined in the matrix shown, the surface temperature of the models shown should not exceed 90˚C. This can change, however, especially if the initial environmental temperature is higher than 25˚C.
