Another way that IP ratings are presented are with these optional IP Code Symbols. This chart illustrates the use of symbols in the IP classification system.  Each symbol indicates a particular degree of ingress protection and many times these symbols are placed on equipment to illustrate the IP protection provided. While the wording in the table is not exactly as used in the standards document, the data accurately describes the requirement.
