Programmable output DACs, also known as voltage/current DACs, integrate all of the analog signal chain into one IC. This includes the DAC, voltage reference, and output driver along with diagnostics for cable faults. Although this solution may sound the most attractive for space reasons, the limited flexibility and scalability may be an issue for those with research and development constraints looking for design re-use.
