In summary, analog switches and multiplexers use a semiconductor transmission gate as the way to pass the signal. Because of this, the resistance of the switch is not constant over voltage. Adding a charge pump can be an efficient alternative, allowing the output voltage to exceed VCC. For all analog switches, the performance is always a trade-off, for example RON and CON.
