An example application for the Spyder08 Kit is the conversion of a sewing machine controller from an electromechanical to a fully electronic system. Traditionally, sewing machine controllers have employed a pedal to control the motor speed by varying the applied voltage. These types of systems are expensive and energy inefficient. An improved design utilizes an accelerometer as a tilt sensor and a low-end microcontroller for energy efficient PWM motor control.
