The total switching time of the contact is the total time that the movable contact first releases from the NC contact to the time when the NO contact has settled. Arcing occurs during separation of the NC contact and subsequently the closing of the NO contact. The snap switch design reduces the switching time which in turn reduces the arcing that contributes to contact degradation.
