Phase change materials, or PCMs, are supplied as a solid pad. When a critical temperature is reached, such as during an initial burn in or during the initial use of the device, the pad will melt and begin to flow. As the material flows it will fill the voids and interstices on the mating surface, providing a lower thermal resistance between the mating surfaces. T-Global offers PC99 as their phase change material.
