Less frequently, an engineer might try to fit the components into an enclosure that is really too small for the application. In order to save a few cents on an enclosure, they might incur extra design and assembly time far offsetting the cost differential of a slightly larger enclosure. Also, it is not atypical to upgrade an enclosure with new technology which might require more space. Starting with a “tight” enclosure means that a new enclosure will have to be purchased for upgrades.
