Conductive rubber keypads have the following advantages. They are relatively low cost, they provide tactile feedback and are resistant to liquids and harsh environments. They can be sealed with epoxy, and they are easy to backlight using LED’s or EL lamps. Potential drawbacks include relatively high contact resistance and higher tooling costs.
