The Timer Array Unit (TAU) is a peripheral module containing several timer channels. The largest of these units contains up to 8 timer channels, each of these channels being a 16-bit timer. Therefore it is important to distinguish between the channels and the unit. Where a channel is more or less one independent timer within a unit, a unit can have up to 8 channels. These 8 channels operate independently but can be combined together.
