In summary, the VL6180X is STMicroelectronics’ first proximity sensor based on time of flight technology. Compared to conventional IR, which is typically used in the market today, the VL6180X actually measures distance. The VL6180X also has an ambient light sensor (ALS) included that can detect light as low as 1 Lux and as high as 100 K Lux.
