Because of RoHS legislation, cadmium sulfide (CdS) photoresistors are no longer permitted in countries in the European Union. They are easily replaced with silicon-based phototransistors. The schematic shown here is a night light application where the TEMT6000X01 replaced the CdS component. Only the value of R1 needed to be changed.
