The circuit at the top of the slide can be simplified with the use of a low VCE(sat) BJT. When operating at a beta of 100, the transistor has a VCE(sat) of 100mV. The dissipated power for the collector current would be 100mW, while the base current would be 33mW. The total power loss would be 133mW.
