Shown in blue is the previous generation of drivers for stepper motors. Even if microstepping could be performed with the old generation of products, it required resources from the microcontroller. The new STMicroelectronics L647x family is optimized for microstepping. If a customer needs only full step, the L6208 is still a great part, but for microstepping the L6470, L6472, or the L6474 are the appropriate components.
