During the PWM off-time the current in a full bridge can recirculate in 3 ways. Slow decay; where the current flows through the two low side drivers, fast decay; where the bridge reverses direction during the off-time causing current to decay rapidly, and mixed decay; which uses a combination of fast and slow decay.
