There are four varieties of circuit breaker technology: Thermal, magnetic, thermal-magnetic, and high performance (high performance is not a Technology- let's call these "Types of Circuit Protection") Each has (have) different trip curve in relation to time and current and (how it reacts to Over Currents versus Short Circuit conditions.) each also has distinct mechanical characteristics.
