MPLAB ICD requires that a connector be added to the application, connecting to power and ground, the MCLR reset line, and the two pins for MPLAB ICD 2 communication. If you do not want to put a connector on the target then you could put pins on the target to connect with a “fling lead” assembly form MPLAB ICD 2.
