Unlike the Rth(j-mb) where the LFPAK88 has an advantage, the Rth(j-amb) measurement for the the D²PAK has an inherent advantage if they are both measured on a minimum footprint. However, using standard practices such as enlarging the copper footprint, using PCB ground plane, and PCB vias the LFPAK88 has similar performance as the much larger D²PAK.
