Shown here is the gate-to-source charge (Qgs) and gate-to-drain charge (Qgd) in a MOSFET. In DC/DC applications, faster MOSFET switching speed increases the efficiency of a buck regulator. Switching speed is proportional to a MOSFET's gate charge (Qg); lower Qg, Qgd and Qgs translate to faster switching speeds.
