Shown on this slide is an example of the use of TRIACs. There are several used in this system, some have resistive loads and some have motors. They are direct driven by a microcontroller with a resistor in series with the gate. As can be seen, when using a sensitive gate TRIAC the circuit can have energy savings because the trigger current is low, therefore the current needed from the microcontroller is low.
