For instance, with a 15k Ohm resistor, the current limit is 1 A and with a 5k Ohm resistor, the current limit is 3 A. This is the highest value that can be programmed. With a resistance below 5k Ohm, the max output current will be 3.2 A, so there is a short circuit protection, even if the value of the resistor is too low or wrong for any reason.
