This slide illustrates the simplified internal block schematic the resistive touch controllers. Just like the capacitive sense controllers, these are Finite State Machines. All of the functions are built-in which results in the load on the host controller being low. Also notice that the devices have both I2C and SPI Interfaces for added flexibility in communication.
