ST has introduced new products in the isolated TO-220 using an internal ceramic isolator versus using a fully molded package. Using a ceramic insulator minimizes an increase in thermal resistance versus other isolated packages. At the same time customers are able to reduce the assembly time and cost for the system by the elimination of the needed isolation material between the device and its external heatsink.
