CTE (Coefficient of Thermal Expansion) mismatch between neighboring material can cause serious problems. For example, alumina substrate and FR-4 PC board have CTE difference of 13ppm/oC. If the size of the mismatched component is larger, the effect is more severe. For example, 10 mm long alumina component can be 20um longer if the temperature rises by 100oC.
