The XC9248 has a built-in driver transistor (unlike a controller-type DC/DC which requires an external transistor). There are fewer external components required when using the XC9248, which contributes to space savings. Additionally, since the XC9248 uses synchronous rectification, it can achieve a much higher efficiency as compared to a non-synchronous system.
