There are many possible applications for a reflective sensor, from detecting the leading edge of an ATM card to engage the motor, to detecting the presence of a hotel room key card to open the door, to being placed behind a surface to create a ‘touchless’ switch, to detecting the speed and direction of a spinning shaft that has an encoder mark on it.
