X2Y and MLCC capacitors use the same production technology. The major difference is the shield (electrode) layers of X2Y versus the original inner electrodes of conventional MLCCs. These additional layers introduce two additional terminations (G1 and G2) to the X2Y, which connect to the inner shield layers, in contrast to conventional MLCCs.
