Selecting rotation shows the data from the gyroscope. The accelerometer is not good at measuring rotation in the horizontal plane. The gyroscope, on the other hand, is designed to measure rotation in any plane. Shaking the board up and down should show no response, but rotating the board will case change to the graphs.
