The ground pour consistency on the PC board is important because the entire PC board is the ground plane for the antenna, and the overall PCB dimensions determine the electrical length. The ground pour around the ground clearance (GC) area needs to be particularly solid. Through the use of vias, the ground pour does not need to be continued in the same layer throughout the PC board.
